People residing in Austria are subject to compulsory registration. If you move and settle in Vienna (or move somewhere else in the city) and thus change your official residence, you have to register your new place of residence and officially de-register from your former domicile within three days. You can do this easily at any "Magistratisches Bezirksamt" (district offices in Vienna).
